"Who hears these words of mine & puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, & the winds blew & beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine & does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, & the winds blew & beat against that house, & it fell with a great crash."

Matthew 7:24-27

Labor Day in Minnesota

We headed up to Ashley's parent's cabin in Minnesota again for the week before Labor Day weekend.  The Reisetter family was able to join us again this year for the first part of the week, so we were all excited to spend time with them.  We left the weekend before on Sunday morning.  We stopped once, and arrived early in the evening.  We got the place unlocked, unloaded and got the kids ready for bed all before the Reisetter's arrived.  After they got there, we chatted a little bit and then got everyone ready for bed.

Monday was a beautiful day and we were able to spend lots of time at the beach playing in the sand, taking paddle boat rides and kayaking.  The kids also had fun burying each other. :)

Tuesday was another gorgeous day.  You never know what you're going to get for weather at the end of August at the lake and we were blessed with awesome weather!  The kids were excited to kayak again, play at the beach and take the paddle boat out.  We also got the paddle board out and Mason and Jillian enjoyed that.  Also, right before lunch, we got out the rocket and tube so that the kids could take some rides behind the fishing boat.

Wednesday was just as beautiful as the other two days.  In the morning we enjoyed more tubing, but this time behind the speed boat.  The kids also had fun digging in the sand and playing in the water again.  After the kids got up from their naps we headed up to Itasca State Park to see the headwaters of the Mississippi river.  After the headwaters, we headed over to the Grand Lodge to get some shakes.  It was a long wait so some stayed to wait for the shakes and some of us headed back for dinner.

Thursday was Reisetter's final day at the cabin and we were blessed with another great day.  The paddle boat was out once again, as well as the kayaks.  Everyone also enjoyed some time on the beach.  The evening ended by eating homemade pizza out on the patio and having a fire to roast s'mores.  Couldn't think of a better way to end a great week with great friends!

More paddle boating

More kayaking :)

Friday the Reisetters got up, packed their van, ate breakfast, and then headed for home.  We had such a great time with with them it was sad to see it come to an end!  However, we still had all weekend left at the lake, so we put on our suits and enjoyed another wonderful day at the beach!

Saying good bye

Norah ;)

Grandpa had arrived Friday afternoon, so the kids were ready to go fishing on Saturday.  Their time on the boat was pretty successful too!  Also Saturday afternoon, we began to put some things away as we were getting ready to close up the cabin for the summer.  After the kids got up from their naps, we took one last ride on the tube.  Norah wanted to ride and then Grace thought she should ride too. :)

Sunday started out pretty nice but cooler.  While the kids were napping in the afternoon, we took the boat out and then also got the dock out.  All that happened just before a rain storm rolled in. :)

Monday we got up and headed to the neighbor's for our annual breakfast at the pot meal.  We enjoyed lots of yummy food and great conversation.  After breakfast we headed back to the cabin to load up so we could head home.  Before we left we quick pulled the fishing boat out and turned it over for the winter.  Then we hopped into the car to head south!  It was a nice "end of summer" trip at the cabin, see you next summer MN!

Norah's First Day of Preschool

Norah had her first day of preschool on August 24th.  She was so excited to start school again and kept telling everyone that she was "going to the same school, but just a different classroom with a different teacher". :)  Norah was also excited to see some of her friends that were going to be in her class again from her first year of preschool.  We hope she has a great year!

Iowa State Fair 2015

We headed down to DSM for our annual trip to the Iowa State Fair.  We had a really nice day for it and the kids were so excited to go.  As soon as we got there we headed to the birthing building to see all the baby animals.  There were some baby pigs that had just been born, so that was fun to see.  We were a little bummed though because there were no ducks, chickens or other birds this year because of the bird flu.  After the birthing building we headed over to the Iowa Pork Producers tent to eat lunch.

Lunch time!

After lunch we headed over to do the "Little Hands on the Farm" exhibit.  The kids were way excited to do this.  Grace even tried it out, but needed a little help. :)

After the Little Hands on the Farm, we headed over to see some animals.  We went to the cow barn first to see the cows and the big bull.  Then we headed to the horse barn, and we happened to walk in at just the right time as a lady had her baby Clydesdale out and was letting people come and pet it.  I think it was only about 6 or 8 months old and it was already so big!  Such a fun experience for the kids!  After the horses, we went to check out the swine barn to see the big boar.  Next we visited the sheep and then the avenue of the breeds.

When we had finished visiting all the animals, we headed over to the Varied Industries Building to look at all the booths.  Kyler also collected quite a few tattoos here. :)  Our next stop was the Ag Building to see the butter cow and ice sculptures.  Grace also finally fell asleep just as we were leaving the Varied Industries Building. :)

We then headed over to the DNR building to check out the fish and then walked to the 4H building to see all the projects the kids had completed.  Our last stop before dinner was the open arena where they were showing calves.  They all were "mooing" when we walked up toward the fence, and one was standing facing out of the fence.  All of a sudden he "mooed" and Grace did not like that at all!  She started crying and Erik had to walk away with her and she refused to come back. :)  We then decided it was time for dinner, so we headed to the Cattleman's Beef Quarters for our final meal before heading back home.  We had a great day and are already looking forward to next year!
